North Wales Premier Fly Fishery Ossies Memorial Shield May 2006 What is it about this competition? - every time it takes place the weather is horrible. Saturday, 20 May, was no different. A good number of names had been taken but only five anglers turned up to fish. The weather was atrocious - gale force winds and a downpour all morning and into the afternoon sessions. Fish had been rising freely in the week leading up to the competition but on the day they went deep. By the end of the morning session it was too close to call who might be the winner - Dean Simonite was in the lead catching his fish on egg fly and buzzer. As is the norm at Tan Y Mynydd on competition days, the afternoon fished hard even though the fish were starting to show on the surface. Dean kept hold of the No.1 spot and eventually won the competition with 5 fish followed closely by Derek Beary with 4 fish. Yet another new name goes on the trophy - what will happen in September? - one thing for sure is that the weather will be horrible!! | ||||||||||||||
